Teaching jobs

By Anthony Pemberton

Teaching JobsThe desire to help people to learn is a key characteristic needed to become a teacher.  A teaching job in many ways is such a rewarding experience for the people who do it as they watch pupils grow and gain confidence in the subject and in some cases develop a passion for the subject. Teachers can make learning fun and have a real effect on the people they teach, opening them up to a new world and building relationships through teaching can be long-lasting and fulfilling; especially if you have made a difference.

The varieties of teaching jobs on offer are numerous and each type of teaching job requires different approaches, skills and knowledge. The job of a primary school teacher, for example, differs from that of a secondary school teacher. Primary school teachers need to have a broader knowledge of the key subjects introduced within primary school and have to be aware of many aspects of primary school education. The job of a secondary school teacher is somewhat more focused in the sense that the teacher´s job is more focused and specialised to teaching one subject from the curriculum of secondary school education. Both jobs require that teachers be good role models for their students as they develop and grow into young adults.

Aside from these types of teachers a wider range of teaching posts exist. Teachers of children with special needs, teaching adults, teaching extreme sports, the list goes on.

It has been common over the last few years to learn a second language and to go to teach in another country. In some cases people give up their jobs and become teachers abroad; sometimes for adventure purposes, to see another country, or a change of career.

With regards to teaching abroad, for those who are native speakers of English and have a near-native command of English, teaching English is often a popular option and many jobs require that you have a TEFL and/or experience in the field of teaching.

With regards to Spanish, for instance, there is the option of taking the DELE exam (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera).  This is an accredited certificate and of great value if going to work in the Spanish-speaking world; it even gives you the opportunity to teach not only your native language but teach Spanish to foreigners provided that the level of Spanish one has is of near-native command.

Teaching is a profession which offers bright prospects and opportunities and the list of things a person can teach is endless. Each day is different as the people you teach have different thing s to say and contribute all the time. It has been said that a person will never learn a topic better than when they start to teach it.
