Information about Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is located on Banderas Bay in the state of Jalisco, about 352 km from the state's capital Guadalajara, and on the end of the Sierra Madre Occidental. The town is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes of rivers, waterfalls and jungle, and the average yearly temperature here is usually about 27º C.

The pacific coast beach town began developing as a global tourist destination in the 1970s. Filmmaker John Huston featured Puerto Vallarta's Mismaloya Beach in his La Noche de la Iguana, starring Ava Gardner and Richard Burton, which effectively placed the town in the international spotlight.

The area offers wonderful diving opportunities, the best of which can be found in Los Arcos, where scuba divers can explore tropical marine life and underwater mountains that tower out of the sea.

Visitors are also encouraged to see the works of the famous Puerto Vallarta naïf painter Manuel Lepe, whose murals and paintings grace city hall and the Manuel Lepe Museum.

A great way to enjoy Puerto Vallarta's pleasant weather is by taking walks along the jetty and seeing the sculpture work there, or strolling around town and checking out its charming shops and art galleries, or even seeing the town's upscale side at Marina Vallarta, where incredible yachts and luxury boats drop anchor. Try authentic Mexican food at an open-air restaurant, perhaps while watching in awe as the sun slowly dips into the Pacific horizen and turns the sky a stunning aray of color.

Puerto Vallarta also offers opportunities to practice exciting water sport activities such as surfing and fishing. The town even hosts an annual sport fishing tournament.

In summary, Puerto Vallarta gives visitors the chance to experience Mexico while enjoying fantastic beaches, attractions and services.
